FAQs - Maths and English Level 2 Evidence
Here are some commonly asked questions regarding Maths and English Evidence
- Why do I need to evidence my Maths and English Level 2?
As part of the ESFA Funding Regulations, all apprentices are required to demonstrate that they hold a Level 2 in English and Maths. A new rule from the ESFA means that all new joiners will need a call with our onboarding team to discuss their application for the apprenticeship. After the call, the onboarding team will provide an initial assessment and call notes to the learner. The learner will then sign off on this information on their online application. - What evidence is acceptable for Maths and English?
- GCSE/O-Level Certificate/A-Levels
- Functional Skills Certificate
- A National Record of Achievement
- What if I can't evidence Maths and English Level 2?
If you cannot evidence that you have Maths and English at Level 2 then you will need to complete Functional Skills alongside the apprenticeship. This is a requirement by the ESFA. - What if I studied abroad?
If you have studied abroad you can send us your High School Certificates and we can compare them on a Government database, which allows us to verify if the ESFA will accept the qualification as a comparable.
If you have studied English in a non-speaking English country, this is considered to be English as a Second Language and not comparable to English Level 2. - I have a British Degree from University.
The EFSA does not accept degrees to be comparable to Maths and English Level 2, so this will not exempt you from Functional Skills, unless the Degree is in the subjects Maths or English. - I have gained my Cambridge English Exam/ IELTS.
This is also considered to be English as a Second Language and not comparable to English Level 2, so this will not exempt you from Functional Skills.
If you have any queries or need assistance, please contact BPP's onboarding team on Apprenticeshiponboarding@bpp.com or +44 (0)161 244 6440.
As part of the L7 Actuary onboarding process, we need to know if you have exemptions, subjects already passed and which subjects currently being studied, as any prior learning or exemptions will impact on your personal Learning Plan.
Please complete the exemptions survey at:
https://bppgroup.fra1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_aW2v7OZ6AHTfk90 as soon as possible (access to the survey will expire on 14 August 2023, so please submit before this date).
On the IFoA website you may be able to see which exemptions route is available to you and what evidence requirements are needed. Please visit https://actuaries.org.uk/qualify/exam-exemptions/ and it lists the university course information.
When you fill in the survey you can then select exemption expected based on your degree. Certain degrees from accredited degree courses may entitle you to exemptions. Non-accredited courses may mean you can apply for CB1, CB2, CS1 only.
At this stage, we’re looking for your best guess of which exemptions you expect to receive, and it is better to err on the side of fewer exemptions if you are unsure. We can adjust in future if you get different exemptions to what you originally expected.
- You will also need to complete your application using the BPP online application link: https://www.bpp.com/account?registration_type=kpmg.
- You will need to select the Actuary Program and October 2023 start date (which will be 02 October 2023). This will show the Professional Qualification IFoA CM, CS, CB and CP Exams (this is the Level 7 Actuarial Apprenticeship). The application closing date is 16 August 2023.
