Smita Sanghrajka

KPMG East Africa

Smita is responsible for leading client service teams in the IDAS Africa Pratice

Smita Sanghrajka is a Partner in the KPMG IDAS Africa practice and has specific responsibility for leading client service teams. Not only has she spearheaded the performance improvement of the practice’s own grant and fund management, she has also provided quality assurance of the department’s work with large programmes such as the Global Resilience Partnership.

As a testament to her tenacity and determination, Smita recently conquered the tallest freestanding mountain in the world and Africa’s highest point– Mount Kilimanjaro. She brings this same energy to the workplace with a solution-oriented approach. She has worked with clients such as SIDA, DFID, Zurich Foundation, USAID, Ford Foundation and JICA. She is a specialist in organizational and process development, programme design and management, grant and fund management, sustainability, performance improvement and capacity building.

Although her career began with the firm, she diversified her path as an independent consultant moving on to work with various local and international non-governmental agencies, civil Society organisations, donor agencies, and the public sector before returning to KPMG. Smita has had board level engagement in education and health initiatives in Kenya, for instance contributing as a Trustee of the Dignitas Project and The Friends of Mathari Hospital.

Though some may say that reaching the popular “Uhuru” peak at 5,900 meters above sea level is a life achievement in itself, Smita’s journey in the development world is far from over. She says that over twenty years’ of development experience contributing to transformation and change, predominately in East Africa, has only driven her passion for seeing impact at community level further.
