KPMG Foundation & Boccia

At KPMG, giving back is an essential aspect of life and an integral part of our values, culture, and Impact Plan. Through the KPMG Foundation, we want to give our people the opportunity and time to make a real difference in the community and for charities they care about. By giving every person the opportunity to submit a volunteer project, we aim to motivate everyone to get actively involved and make an impact.

Boccia, often likened to petanque, is a paralympic sport that creates opportunities and removes barriers, allowing people with severe physical disabilities to the throwing arm to engage in physical activity and sports in a healthy way.

Organized into four 'ends', like ‘sets’ in tennis, players have a designated timeframe to play all their balls during each end. This is a very tactical sport where concentration and muscle control are very important.

Boccia is supported by Boccia Belgium, aiming to establish a national team of boccia players, further fostering inclusivity and competitiveness within the sport.

During three complete days of volunteering, KPMG employees dedicated their time to support the boccia community. On February 3rd and 4th, November 18th and 19th, and December 17th, our volunteers participated in the organization of matches to ensuring the smooth running of events.

A significant aspect of their contribution was assisting in boccia games, ensuring smooth transitions between 'ends' and facilitating a supportive environment for players with disabilities to engage in healthy competition. By running the clocks and maintaining the pace of the game, our volunteers played a crucial role in enabling individuals with disabilities to participate fully in Boccia and experience the joy of sportsmanship.

Our volunteers were deeply gratified by the opportunity to contribute to such a meaningful cause, recognizing the transformative power of sports in fostering inclusivity and breaking down barriers.
