Creating a fixture for the National Basketball League (NBL) matches can be an extremely complicated process. NBL teams may not be the number one tenants of their arenas – therefore availability constantly changes as venues are booked. The fixture needs to account for travel time, rest, and optimizing road trips to visit multiple destinations.
KPMG in Australia and the US jumped at the chance to develop a match fixture optimization model for the NBL’s 2017/18 schedule. Although KPMG has developed similar models previously there were additional constraints, including it being the first time an airline schedule had to be considered, alongside venue cost factors, as rental rates differ throughout the year.
Through extensive collaboration with NBL management and utilizing the KPMG fixture optimization model, the team provided a schedule that met all objectives. It addressed stringent venue availability requirements, improved the quality of TV matchups and boosted ticket sales.
We believe when it comes to optimizing professional sporting fixtures, it could be safe to say – KPMG is in a league of its own.
We know how to exploit technology.
