My internship and my subsequent employment at KPMG were a mere confluence of luck and sheer will.
My accounting professor, who was working at KPMG Austria, recommended me to apply to KPMG. Following her advice, I reached out to KPMG in the Philippines. I had no expectations at all since the Big 4 were known to be highly skeptical in terms of screening internship applicants. To my surprise, the firm’s People, Performance & Culture representative replied, and it took me less than an hour to book a plane ticket for an interview. That was when my KPMG Story began to unfold.
I was expecting that I would have to adjust to cultural differences and the change in lifestyle. To my surprise, the internship exceeded my expectations. I acquired knowledge from managers from different service lines in the Advisory department. My superiors were also very helpful and hands-on.
Because the office setting fostered a learning environment, I decided to come back to the Philippines and pursue my long-term career aspirations with KPMG. Today, I am part of the Financial Risk Management (FRM) team where I focus on IFRS 9 (Financial Instruments) adaption and statistical modelling.
