Message from the Managing Partner

Our strategy to make Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) the ‘watermark’ running through KPMG in Malaysia is aligned with our Purpose to inspire confidence and empower change. It is our ambition to drive measurable change towards a sustainable future – and we do this by exploring solutions to difficult challenges, working shoulder-to-shoulder with our stakeholders via community engagement to tackle issues ranging from climate crisis to social mobility.

Embracing the ESG agenda is as important to our people as it is to our clients and the wider community. Coming out of the global pandemic, KPMG in Malaysia is taking it as an opportunity to accelerate the positive changes we aspired for – not only on an organizational level but also on a national scale.

KPMG in Malaysia is proud to demonstrate our ESG efforts and progress in this inaugural Our Impact Plan report, encompassing sustainability performances of all eight KPMG offices nationwide, namely Petaling Jaya, Penang, Johor, Ipoh, Kuching, Miri, Kota Kinabalu and Labuan. This report covers the period from 1 October 2021 to 30 September 2022. It entails our vision, plans and commitments to our ESG agenda to guide our firm’s continued growth along four key pillars: People, Prosperity, Planet and Governance.

I am immensely proud to be part of the leadership team and partnership in Malaysia for committing to leave KPMG in Malaysia better than we found it. This commitment and passion to enable positive change has been ingrained in our culture since 1928, when the first office of KPMG in Malaysia was established in Ipoh. The firm’s achievements today are credited to the contributions of the generations of KPMG professionals over the past 95 years in Malaysia.

Executing on our ESG agenda effectively will enable us to achieve the aspiration for one of our KPMG’s values, “Together, For Better” and I trust that my fellow KPMGians will rise to the challenge.

In our ongoing commitment to establish a workplace that embraces Inclusion, Diversity and Equity (IDE) principles, we encourage everyone in our firm to be a part of the Impact@KPMG journey.

We continue to be led by our Purpose — to inspire confidence and empower change — through the Impact@KPMG framework that is anchored on four pillars, each serving to define our Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) responsibilities under one umbrella.

People

Creating a caring, inclusive, Purpose-led and Values-driven culture for our people.

Fostering an inclusive culture built on trust, empathy and equality, protecting the health and well-being of our people, both physically and mentally, as well as advocating for lifelong learning.

Prosperity

Driving purposeful business practices and good corporate citizenship.

Leaving a positive impact in the communities we operate in, championing quality education, acting with a clear purpose, leading the profession in audit quality and driving responsible tax practices.

Planet

Reducing our impact on the environment to build a more sustainable and resilient future.

Working towards decarbonization practices and providing financial markets, clients and our leaders with clear, comprehensive and high-quality information on the impacts of climate change.

Governance

Our Purpose and Values lie at the heart of the way we do things. To do the right thing, the right way, always.

Acting lawfully, ethically and in the public interest while standing firm against corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery.
