Peter Sahagian is a partner and the General Counsel of KPMG LLP (Canada), and he is also a Member of the Management Committee of KPMG Law LLP. As General Counsel, he is the senior legal officer of KPMG with responsibility for all legal matters affecting the firm. In particular, he oversees all litigation, both civil and regulatory, relating to professional practice and standards. Peter is a member of the KPMG International General Counsel Steering Group which advises on legal matters affecting the KPMG International network.
Prior to joining KPMG as General Counsel in 1989, Peter was a member of the General Counsel’s office at Bank of Montreal where he was responsible for a wide variety of domestic and international litigation. Prior to the Bank, Peter practiced civil litigation in private practice in Toronto for approximately 10 years.
Peter was educated at the University of Toronto and Osgoode Hall Law School at York University (LL.B. 1978) and admitted to the Ontario Bar in 1980. Peter serves as a member of the Canadian Advisory Board for the Conflict Prevention & Resolution Institute. In 2008 Peter Sahagian received the Canadian General Counsel Award for Litigation Management.
