During the COVID-19 pandemic many more companies are relying on direct marketing techniques in order to market their products and services hoping that their businesses will survive the pandemic. On the 1st of July 2020, the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (“POPI”) became effective and companies now have to scrutinise, amongst other things, their direct marketing practices.
