Karen has wide experience of regulatory and investigation work. She was seconded for two years to the Bank of England's Special Investigations Unit, and during this period became Head of Bank Investigations within the Enforcement Division of the FSA (now FCA). Karen led a number of money laundering and fraud investigations and reviews as well as provision of financial crime advisory services. She also sat as an advisor to the Board of Banking Supervision. Karen has led many regulatory compliance reviews and investigations and has been involved in a number of Reports to the Regulator concerning fraud investigation, money laundering and miss-selling (including Interest Rate Derivatives), including as skilled person for S166 reports covering systems and controls issues. In addition she has managed a number of expert witness and litigation support assignments and prepared reports for the Court. She has been involved in major regulatory assignments for global retail and investment banks and global asset management firms in reviewing anti-money laundering and compliance arrangements including OFAC sanctions compliance. She has also led financial crime advisory assignments for financial institutions covering fraud risk strategy and operational efficiency reviews. She has led large regulatory and fraud investigations in investment banks (and retail banks and insurers) which involved evidence gathering and analysis, interviews, liaison with the FSA (now FCA) and criminal authorities and preparing reports to regulators including one which was used in evidence in the criminal trial of the alleged perpetrator of the fraud, another which involved providing the forensic investigation support in a major trading fraud covering several countries including UK, US and Switzerland.
