Argentina–Buenos Aires Lockdown Extension Until 25 Oct
On 12 October 2020, Argentina’s government issued a new extension of the mandatory lockdown for the Buenos Aires metropolitan region that will last until 25 October. This will impact many aspects of daily personal life and business life in the metro region.
On Monday, 12 October 2020, Argentina’s government published in the Boletín Oficial (the official gazette) the extension of the mandatory lockdown for the Buenos Aires metropolitan region, until 25 October.1 (For prior coverage, see GMS Flash Alert 2020-405, 21 September 2020.)
Whether to relax the quarantine in each province remains an internal decision of the governor in conjunction with the national government. Currently, 18 of the 23 Argentine provinces plan to return to phase 1 as the virus has spread.
WHY THIS MATTERS
The measures established in the Decree N° 792/2020, could continue to delay residents of Buenos Aires and individuals who have plans to travel to (and within) Argentina.
The measures restricting group gatherings; closing borders, suspending flights within, into and out from the country (until 25 October 2020), advising people to keep 1.5 meters apart, and confining people to their homes, are still in place to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
Remote working remains the norm for globally mobile employees – apart from essential workers – and employers should continue to facilitate this as a way of fostering employee safety and business continuity.
