The KPMG Global Sustainability Institute hosted a webinar, on 15 July 2020, to discuss current issues in human rights and business with Benjamin Gatland, Director Social Sustainability from HEINEKEN International and Richard Boele, KPMG’s Global Leader for Business & Human Rights Services.

Benjamin has more than a decade worth of experience in supply chain sustainability, Human Rights, due diligence and responsible sourcing. At HEINEKEN, Benjamin is responsible for the company’s global Human Rights agenda. Prior to joining HEINEKEN, Benjamin served as the Executive Director of Partner Africa where he was responsible for leading a team across Africa, spearheading Human Rights focused research, consulting and trade development work on behalf of global brands and retailers.
Richard Boele has promoted human rights in various capacities for over 30 years, championing the causes of the vulnerable and under-represented. Early in his career he worked for human rights NGOs that included the Australia Tibet Council, and the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organisation UNPO before moving to be the human rights campaign manager for The Body Shop and join Amnesty International’s Business and Human Rights Group. Richard ran his own human rights consultancy for 15 years, called Banarra which was acquired by KPMG in Australia in 2015. He is now the global leader for Business & Human Rights Services at KPMG where he aims to make corporate responsibility for human rights the norm. Richard was nominated as a finalist for Australia’s national human rights award 2019.
