Argentina–New Rules for Air Travel to/from Argentina
New rules from Argentina’s civil aviation authorities impose new requirements and non-compliance penalties on commercial airlines flying into, out of, or within Argentina, which will also affect travelers.
Highlights
Argentina’s National Administration of Civil Aviation (Administración Nacional de Aviación Civil or “ANAC”) published in the country’s official bulletin (Boletín Oficial) two Resolutions (Nrs 143 and 144) on 24 April and 27 April respectively, which establish some new procedures for national and international airlines willing to provide commercial passenger services from, to, or within the Argentinean territory.1
These measures intend to protect Argentina’s population and control and prevent the further spread of COVID-19 by means of following strict protocols involving a formal authorization from ANAC and policies on non-compliance.
WHY THIS MATTERS
These measures complement the travel restrictions which were already established by the government2 and might have considerable impact on globally-mobile employees between Argentina and other countries. Employees and their families with plans to travel – and anyone wishing to travel – by air to, from, or within Argentina over the next few months will be affected and therefore could experience some anxiety, inconvenience, and frustration.
Awareness is vital to help minimize disruptions to operations and to manage associated risks and costs.
Context
The rapid worldwide spread of the novel coronavirus and COVID-19 has motivated the ANAC to take drastic measures whose aims are to control the virus in Argentina and prevent its spread.
24 April 2020 Measure
In Resolution Nr 143/2020, the Director of ANAC, Paola Tamburelli, announced the following measure that will directly impact the way things have customarily been done.
- National and international airlines willing to provide commercial passenger services from, to, or within Argentinean territory must have authorization from ANAC.
27 April 2020 Measure
In Resolution Nr 144/2020, Director Tamburelli announced the following measure that complements Resolution Nr 143/2020.
- Banning of the sale and purchase of tickets for commercial flights from, to, or within Argentinean territory until 1 September 2020.

Investigations and penalties may result from non-compliance with the rules announced by ANAC.
