On 11 April, Argentina’s government further extended travel restrictions by keeping the country’s borders closed until 26 April.1

This measure aims to protect the Argentine population and control and prevent the further spread of COVID-19.

(For prior coverage, see GMS Flash Alert 2020-61, 16 March 2020.)

The extension of the travel restrictions will continue to impact on employers and their globally-mobile employees between Argentina and the world.

Until the government decides it is safe to rescind or roll-back current restrictions, extensive remote working is a “best practice” for globally-mobile employees, to the extent possible, and is a way for employers to foster the safety of their employees and help ensure business continuity.

The rapid worldwide spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) has motivated Argentina’s government to take drastic measures aimed at controlling the virus’ ability to enter the country from the outside and prevent its spread in the country. For other measures, including the mandatory country-wide quarantine, see GMS Flash Alert 2020-168, 13 April 2020.

Investigations and penalties may result from non-compliance with the new rules.

Any individuals impacted by the travel restriction extension may wish to consult with their global mobility advisers and immigration legal counsel as soon as possible for advice on next steps.

Our office is tracking these matters closely.  We will endeavor to keep readers of GMS Flash Alert posted on any important developments as and when they occur.
