Turkey: Customs duties on imports from United States

A decree published in today’s edition of the official gazette in Turkey concerns retaliatory customs duties (referred to as “additional fiscal burden”) against imports of certain U.S. goods.

Decree no. 2018/11973 (25 June 2018) was issued in response to new U.S. tariffs on steel and aluminum. In Turkey, the new additional customs duties have an effective date of 21 June 2018.Under the decree, there are new extra customs duties for:

  • Automobiles (HS code 8703) with an additional customs duty rate of 60%. 
  • Whisky and other alcoholic beverages (HS code 2208) with an additional customs duty rate of 70%
  • Tobacco (HS code 2401) with an additional customs duty rate of 30% 
  • Cosmetics (HS code 3304) with an additional customs duty rate of 30% 
  • Plastic goods (HS code 3926 with an additional customs duty rate of 30%
