B.C. not-for-profits must transition to a new online filing system by November 28, 2018.
Affected non-profit corporations in the province must set up information filing accounts with B.C.'s corporate registry and complete a transition application to comply with the province's new Societies Act—if they have not done so already. This application includes re-filing constitutions and bylaws online. Not-for-profits that do not meet the deadline for completing their transition will be dissolved and may have their charitable status revoked.
Not-for-profit corporations in B.C are required to complete most of their transactions and filings through an online filing system called Societies Online. This follows the enactment of new legislation (the Societies Act) governing how not-for-profit corporations are created and run in B.C., which came into effect November 28, 2016. Affected corporations incorporated before November 28, 2016 were given two years to transition to the online filing system.
Affected not-for-profits must complete a transition application online. The application must include whether the society is a member-funded society. It must also include a copy of the non-profit's:
Incorporated societies cannot make amendments to their purposes while transitioning. Once the not-for-profit has completed the transition, they must file their governing documents with the province's Charities Directorate.
