Myanmar: Rule for hiring foreign experts

The Myanmar Investment Commission issued a clarification to its earlier announcement that investors would need to seek approval before hiring foreign “experts.”

An announcement issued in October 2017 provided that investors would need to seek the approval of the Myanmar Investment Commission (MIC) before hiring foreign experts. However, there was not much detail about this rule included in the announcement; and thus, there were questions as to whether the new rule would apply to all investors, or only those with MIC investment permits.

The commission clarified on 15 November 2017 that the new rule applies with respect to investors holding MIC permits.
