Mexico: Second round of bidding under energy reform

The second round of bidding under the energy reform in Mexico has been completed. The energy reform steps are intended to open the energy sector to public and private companies.

The results reveal 15 contracts being tendered for exploration and extraction of hydrocarbons in shallow waters of the Gulf of Mexico through “shared production contracts.” Other offers being tendered concerned the exploration and extraction of hydrocarbons in conventional terrestrial (dry and wet gas on land) reservoirs. The third tender has been viewed as the most competitive in that it would be possible to allocate 100% of the contractual areas. In this last tender, a single company obtained five contractual areas.
