Kenya: VAT regulations (2017)

The Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury issued regulations for purposes of implementing value added tax (VAT) legislation. The VAT regulations were published in the official gazette in April 2017, and are effective with the approval of the National Assembly.

The 2017 VAT regulations include certain key changes from the current regulations, such as:

  • Repeal of a requirement to install and use tax registers
  • Clarification as to what constitutes an export of services
  • Invoicing requirements for VAT on imported services
