The U.K. government recently announced that it is expanding its online ‘Access UK’ visit visa application platform1 following a successful pilot which was run in The People’s Republic of China.

This issue of GMS Flash Alert briefly explains these announcements and how they may affect your business.

In its press release, the U.K. government has stated that the new online service will make the completion of application forms more intuitive, and provide checklists and next steps guidance to individuals seeking entry clearance into the U.K.

It is expected that this new service will make the process of applying for a visit visa faster and less onerous, which means businesses can deploy their staff to the U.K. more quickly, so they can support and grow their U.K. operations. In addition, general visitors are more likely to come to the U.K. for tourism, therefore positively contributing to the U.K. economy.

Currently, all U.K. entry clearance visa applications have to be submitted via the U.K. government’s online platform, ‘Visa4UK’2. This website is difficult to navigate and the application forms are long and complex. In its drive to provide a better user experience, the U.K. government has been simplifying its processes and the new ‘Access UK’ website is the most recent evidence of their endeavors.

The ‘Access UK’ online visit visa services is now available in over 180 countries and in 10 languages. The service will be extended to a further 13 countries over the coming weeks.  It is also possible to utilise this new platform on mobile devices.

It is envisaged that ‘Access UK’ will eventually replace ‘Visa4UK’.

Any improvements to the application process which increase the speed and efficiency with which U.K. visas can be obtained are always welcome. Business visitors often need to travel at short notice to respond to a business need, so it is a positive step for the U.K. government to respond to this need by investing in their technology.
