Prior to 2006, Paul spent 12 years with KPMG in transaction services and assurance, working in Japan, China, Canada, US and UK, covering M&A and assurance work in a variety of sectors including software and technology, telecoms, retail, manufacturing and others. Between 2006 and 2007, Paul was an Executive Director with PineRidge Partners, a middle market Private Equity fund based in Tokyo, where he focused on investment and operations in the technology, manufacturing and digital media sectors, including launching an internet startup in Tokyo in the social networking space. From 2007 to 2011, Paul was the Vice President of Finance for GenoLogics Life Sciences Software (Canada), a leading provider of laboratory information systems software to pharmaceutical companies and research universities, where he was responsible for all areas of finance, human resources, legal, sales operations and technology partnerships. During this time, Paul raised several venture capital rounds, negotiated partnership agreements and arranged subordinated debt and working capital financing to optimize capital structure and cash flows. In 2011, Paul rejoined KPMG Transaction Services at the Tokyo office. His operations experience as a senior finance, legal and HR executive in the technology industry provides unique insights during the transaction process, particularly in viewing and addressing issues from a client perspective. In 2014, Paul launched KPMG FAS’ Internet Deal Advisory due diligence practice and has personally led the due diligence on over 25 internet / software business M&A transactions since 2012, both in-bound into Japan for foreign clients and overseas on behalf of Japanese clients.
