Anuschka Coovadia

Head of Healthcare for Africa

KPMG in South Africa

Dr. Anuschka Coovadia is KPMG’s Head of Healthcare for Africa, and leads the firms Universal Health Coverage work across the Africa region and beyond. Qualifying as a doctor at the height of the HIV epidemic, Anuschka’s initial experiences in healthcare were of a system overwhelmed by disease, denial and stigmatization. She realized that to effect true change she needed to be more than just a clinician, so started the last 15 years of her career working with governments, donors, hospital groups, pharmaceutical manufacturers, professional groups and technology firms. “I have a passion for innovation, strategy, entrepreneurship and development. I love working with people who are courageous and constantly bring fresh ideas to the table,” she says. “We need this if we’re to move forward, expand access to healthcare and address the critical stumbling blocks that hinder the delivery of better quality, patient-centric care. I enjoy moving across all the different components of the healthcare ecosystem - learning from people who have deep vertical experience and capabilities; and then applying those skills more broadly, in the interest of creating a better healthcare system for all Africans."
