U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Janet Yellen today designated IRS Deputy Commissioner Douglas O’Donnell to serve as Acting Commissioner of the IRS.

O’Donnell will head the IRS following the end of Commissioner Charles Rettig’s term on November 12, 2022.

According to a Treasury release, O’Donnell is a career IRS employee, having spent more than 36 years at the agency. Prior to becoming Deputy Commissioner for Services and Enforcement, he served as the Commissioner of the IRS Large Business and International Division for nearly six years.
