Federal excise tax return filing dates for 2021

The Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) of the U.S. Treasury Department today issued a release that serves as a reminder of the 2021 due dates for filing federal excise tax returns and operational reports.

TTB is a bureau of the U.S. Treasury Department that administers provisions of the tax laws that impose a federal excise tax on distilled spirits, wine, beer, tobacco products, cigarette papers and tubes, as well as firearms and ammunition.

The due dates will depend on the taxpayer’s business type and other aspects of its operations. The TTB release includes information on the due dates for filing:

  • Alcohol and tobacco excise tax returns (for annual, quarterly, and semi-monthly filers)
  • Alcohol and tobacco operational reports
  • Alcohol and tobacco export documentation
  • Firearms and ammunition excise tax returns
