Bahrain: VAT relief for construction and real estate
Specific value added tax (VAT) relief is available for the construction and real estate sector.
While supplies related to construction of new buildings have been zero rated (0%), the supply of “bare land” and buildings (whether by sale, rental or lease) has been made exempt. There are many exceptions as well conditions associated with this beneficial VAT treatment.
Contractors, sub-contractors, developers, and property owners therefore need to consider these rules carefully.
