UK: No planned extension of job retention scheme

According to the Chancellor’s summer statement, there will be no extension to the “job retention scheme” that provides economic relief in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

With this announcement, the question for employers to address is: Are there actions to take or complete before the program ends?

The job retention scheme was established to preserve employment during the COVID-19 pandemic. While the Chancellor confirmed there would be no further extension of the scheme, a new “job retention bonus” program was announced for employers that bring furloughed workers back into the business and maintain their employment until at least the end of January 2021.
