Free trade agreement between EU and Vietnam

A free trade agreement between the European Union and Vietnam enters into force on August 1, 2020.

According to an EC release, the free trade agreement contains a chapter, Customs and Trade Facilitation, that provides for equivalent disciplines in the field of customs, new commitments to modernisation and simplification of customs procedures, and improvements to speed up physical controls of the goods. The free trade agreement also includes customs-related provisions in the chapter, Trade in Goods, reflecting a commitment to a reciprocal duty relief on repaired goods.

In addition, the free trade agreement contains a Protocol providing for flexible and simple rules of origin.
