Canada: Tax treaty with Madagascar, entry into force

The Department of Finance announced that Canada's tax treaty with Madagascar entered into force on 3 June 2020.

The treaty was signed in late November 2016, and generally reflects the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) standards for the exchange of tax information.

  • The treaty will apply, for Canadian withholding tax purposes, to amounts paid or credited to non-residents on or after 1 January 2021.
  • For other Canadian taxes, the treaty will apply for tax years beginning on or after 1 January 2021.
