Canada: Emergency benefit, workers in British Columbia

Eligible individuals in British Columbia whose ability to work has been affected by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic may now apply for a one-time tax-free $1,000* payment under the B.C. emergency benefit for workers program.

British Columbia residents may qualify for this emergency benefit payment if:

  • They are approved for the federal “Canada emergency response benefit”
  • They do not receive provincial income or disability assistance
  • They either file or agree to file a 2019 B.C. income tax return
