Senate passes COVID-19 legislation

The U.S. Senate this afternoon passed by unanimous consent the "Paycheck Protection Program and Health Care Enhancement Act" (H.R. 266).

The bill would provide more than $400 billion in new funding for the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) and for health care, including relief for health care providers and for coronavirus (COVID-19) testing.

The bill does not include tax provisions.

The House is expected to consider the legislation later this week, possibly on Thursday, April 23, 2020.

The White House has expressed support for the legislation.
