Nigeria: Additional tax relief (COVID-19)

The Federal Inland Revenue Service announced additional tax relief measures for taxpayers affected by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Previous tax relief measures included an extension of the due date for certain tax return filings and tax payments. Read TaxNewsFlash 

The additional tax relief provisions concern the following:

  • A waiver of the late filing penalty for returns by taxpayers that timely pay their tax liabilities but submit their tax returns later
  • An extension of time for the remittance of value added tax (VAT) from the 21st day to the last day of the month
  • Taxpayers encountering challenges with respect to foreign exchange (FOREX) in settling tax liabilities on their FOREX-denominated transactions
  • An extension of the individual (personal) income tax returns filing deadline for certain individuals (including non-resident persons) by three months to 30 June 2020 (from 31 March 2020)
  • A suspension of all field tax audit, investigations, and monitoring visits.
