Certain states or local governments have offered tax relief on extensions of time to file and to pay upcoming state and local taxes, as well as additional information on matters such as agency shutdowns.

KPMG’s State and Local Tax practice has prepared a report that, in table format, provides a summary of guidance from jurisdictions on extensions of time for filing and payment of income, sales and/or other state taxes, or penalty relief in light of COVID-19.

In this updated report (20 March) [PDF 124 KB], there is new information from:

  • City of Chicago
  • Indiana
  • New Mexico
  • New York City
  • Pennsylvania

Hyperlinks are provided to the state or municipal website where guidance can be found.

This summary will be updated often, so please check back frequently. It is important to carefully read the guidance to determine the tax types affected and the type of relief (e.g., extension of time to file or pay). The situation is fluid, and initial guidance may be revised by the states or new guidance may be issued by state and local governments.
