Japan: Extensions for individual tax returns

Japan’s tax authority on 27 February 2020 announced extensions of the due dates for return filing and tax payments related to the 2019 tax year of individual taxpayers.

Typically, the filing and payment deadlines for individual income tax, gift tax, and consumption tax for individuals are due within a range of dates that conclude in March of the year following the tax year. With the announcement, the filing and payment dates for individual income tax, gift tax, and individual consumption tax for 2019 are extended to 16 April 2020. The extensions are in response to the coronavirus.
