Canada: Extensions of time for tax return filings

Officials in Quebec on 17 March 2020 announced extensions of time for taxpayers to file certain tax returns and to make tax payments in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

  • Corporations that have instalment payments or tax payments due between 17 March 2020 and 31 July 2020 will have more time to make these payments, at a date to be announced at a later time.
  • The deadline for individual income tax returns is extended to 1 June 2020 (from 30 April 2020).
  • The deadline for trusts is extended to 1 May 2020 (from 30 March 2020).
  • The balance due date for tax instalments and taxes payable is extended to at least 31 July 2020 for individuals, individuals with business income, and trusts.

No measures were announced to extend the filing deadlines for partnership information returns or returns of indirect tax.
