The government of Bulgaria is considering measures to assist businesses with challenges related to value added tax (VAT) given the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
There are reports that the deadlines for filing the VAT returns or for paying monthly VAT liabilities will not be adjusted, but it may be that penalties and interest for late filings or payments could be waived. Certain administrative procedures could be suspended for the duration of the crisis. If this measure is approved by the Bulgarian parliament, it would affect control procedures such as tax audits, appeals of tax assessment, etc., but it is uncertain that the VAT refund procedures would be affected.
