Dominican Republic: Auction for power plant projects

An auction for two power plant construction projects have been postponed, pending elections in the Dominican Republic.

The auction would aim at engaging entities that would be in charge of the installation of two new combined-cycle natural gas power plants, with a maximum capacity of 1000 MW. Specifically, bidding with regard to construction of the following two power plants projects had been scheduled for February 2020:

  • 700 MW power plant to be built in the northern region of the Dominican Republic
  • 300 MW power plant to be built in an undetermined region of the country

Due to municipal elections and the upcoming presidential elections in May 2020, the Dominican Corporation of State Electric Companies (Corporación Dominicana de Empresas Eléctricas Estatales—CDEEE) decided to postpone the international energy tender that had been scheduled for February 2020. The future date of the auction is currently unknown.
