Canada: Tax provisions in 2020 budget, Alberta

Alberta’s Finance Minister on 27 February 2020 delivered the province’s 2020 budget.

The budget does not include any changes to the existing corporate or individual (personal) income tax rates. However, the budget includes the following indirect tax measures:

  • Introducing a new 20% sales tax on vaping products
  • Extending the 4% tourism levy to short-term rentals offered through online marketplaces
  • Increasing the education property tax
