Tax reform in Switzerland aims to provide for an internationally accepted corporate tax regime that, in turn, will maintain the attractiveness of Switzerland as a business location.

The tax reform measures have an effective date of 1 January 2020.

Among the tax reform components are the following items affecting corporate taxpayers:

  • Repeal of the current tax statuses and regimes (subject to certain transitional measures)
  • Introduction of new measures under a patent box regime, a “super deduction” for research and development (R&D), a notional interest deduction
  • Reduction of cantonal tax rates
