Nigeria: Lagos state tax authority plans TIN changes

The Lagos state tax authority issued a notice in June 2019, announcing an intention to integrate the state’s existing taxpayers identification system with the national tax identification number (TIN) system.

The Lagos tax authority intends to leverage an existing bank verification number system to achieve this integration. Once completed, access to the Lagos electronic platform for all transactions (such as registration and creation of payer IDs for new taxpayers, payment of taxes and validation of taxpayers’ profiles) would require bank verification number validation.

Self-employed individuals would need to provide their bank verification number to the Lagos tax authority for creation of their unique number, and corporate employers would need to determine that their employees provide their bank verification numbers for processing of their tax clearance certificates.
