The IRS today issued a release reporting “a significant number of expired digital certificates” currently in the IDES (International Exchange Data Service) enrollment service, and noting that many more certificates are set to expire in the next 90 days.
As noted in the IRS transmittal message, there must be a valid certificate associated with an IDES enrollment for the purpose of filing FATCA reports through IDES. Entities are reminded to access their IDES enrollment to verify that there is a valid (not expired) certificate on the account. If a certificate has expired, it can be replaced via the enrollment site.
