United States: ITC to investigate unmanned aerial vehicle imports (drones)

USITC to investigate unmanned aerial vehicle imports

The U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) today announced that it will institute an investigation of imports of certain unmanned aerial vehicles and related components (also known as drones and quadcopters).

As noted in the ITC release, the ITC’s investigation is in response to a complaint that alleges violations of section 337 of the Tariff Act of 1930 (that is, that the imported products infringe certain U.S. patents). On initiating this investigation, the case will be assigned to an ITC administrative law judge for an evidentiary hearing and then an initial determination as to whether there is a violation of section 337. That initial determination will be subject to review by the ITC, and then the ITC will make a final determination in the investigation.
