As noted in the IRS transmittal message, the certification due date depends on which year the QI/WP/WT selected for its periodic review, and whether the QI/WP/WT requires a waiver of the periodic review requirement with its periodic certification (waiver applications). The certification due date for a QI/WP/WT that selected 2015 or 2016 for its periodic review and that has a certification period ending in 2017 is July 1, 2018. In these situations, and for waiver applications made by a QI/WP/WT for the period ending in 2017, IRS will permit an extension to September 1, 2018, to provide the certification.
