IRS release: New mailing address for Form 8809

The IRS today issued a release stating that there is a new mailing address for Form 8809 and that faxes are no longer accepted.

The IRS transmittal message explains that Form 8809, Application for Extension of Time to File Information Returns, filed on paper is now processed by the Internal Revenue Service Center in Ogden, Utah. These paper forms must be mailed. Faxes will not be accepted.  

The mailing address is:

Internal Revenue Service Center 

Ogden, UT 84201-0209 

The IRS release states that extensions will only be granted “for very specific reasons”—for example, records that were lost in a disaster or someone responsible for filing the company’s returns has an unavoidable absence.
