Martin Sokalski is a Principal in KPMG’s Emerging Technology Risk practice with over 17 years of professional experience. Throughout his career, Martin has embarked on an exciting journey to assist organizations overcome a variety of business and technology challenges with a focus on driving value and managing risk. Over the last few years, Martin’s efforts have focused on helping organizations embrace the ‘art of possible’ and design new (and responsible) digital operating models enabled by innovation and emerging technologies. Martin has advised clients on technology driven innovation and transformation, risk management, governance, compliance, and IT audit and controls integration.

In Emerging Technology Risk service network, Martin is a national leader for Mobile, Internet of Things (IoT), and Digital Labor/Cognitive solutions. These technologies are disrupting and transforming strategies and operating models for clients across a wide range of industry verticals. Martin leads initiatives relating to identifying and mitigating key risks and issues impacting the broader industry, development of thought leadership and awareness, and directly engaging with clients and industry communities to resolve complex challenges.

Martin has successfully led numerous client engagements focused primarily on integrating risk management, compliance, governance, and controls for organizations experiencing digital transformation driven by disruptors like Mobile, IoT, Agile, and Robotic Automation/Cognitive. These engagements have a significant impact on business strategy and operating models, employee and customer engagement, and organization’s ability to effectively manage risk. 

Examples of Martin’s recent and notable client accomplishments include assisting: a large automaker enhance their connected vehicle cybersecurity program; a hospital network better manage risk over disparate connected medical devices; a national utilities company deploy a mobile/BYOD strategy; a digital company design and implement agile development/dev ops target operating model; a financial services company evaluate security, privacy, and integrity of their mobile banking and trading platforms; and large telecom company better manage and govern hundreds of digital labor bots deployed across their network and business operations.

Martin continues to focus on development and delivery of strategic yet pragmatic solutions that are aligned with business objectives and leading practices in risk management and governance. Effective and seamless integration of leading practices in data security and privacy, compliance requirements, controls integration and assurance, processing integrity, and secure product and software development, are integral part of Martin’s solutioning and design.

IT audit and attest services

Martin is an active member of the KPMG’s IT Internal Audit network. In this role, he develops and delivers risk and controls training and awareness, thought leadership, and contributes to the enhancement of existing methodologies and approaches that enable higher quality delivery and value to his clients.

Martin works with many Risk Management and Internal Audit functions (2nd and 3rd Lines of Defense) to enable them to protect organization’s most important assets and drive value to the business. Martin engages with Risk and Audit functions to plan, design, deploy, and manage their assurance programs and execute individual assessments designed to effectively identify, monitor, and mitigate risk in light of the disrupted landscape of today’s business. His functional efforts span beyond Risk and Audit functions given the transformative yet agnostic nature of digital platforms and solutions like Mobile, Internet of Things (IoT), Automation/Cognitive, and Secured Agile.
