David is a KPMG partner for the U.S. Utilities Strategy Practice. David has worked with senior leadership of major utility companies and PE firms in North America to identify strategic opportunities for growth and operational performance improvements. David is the lead for KPMG’s U.S. distributed energy resources and renewables sectors. He has extensive expertise in T&D operations, electric vehicles & mobility, digital transformation, and grid-edge technologies and is a thought leader on the future of utility business models.

Professional and Industry Experience

  • International Electricity & Gas Utility – Managed a $13B acquisition and transformation of a gas and electric utility. Identified cost and operations improvements including asset management, field operations, supply chain, shared services, and power generation. Managed programs to deliver performance improvements and achieve savings of $200m over three years
  • US Electricity Distribution & Generation - Architected new operating model and aggressive strategy to become first-quartile performer. Drove transition to new leadership roles, governance practices, and operating capabilities and greater focus on process excellence & sustainable performance. Achieved $100m annual reduction in O&M, improved reliability targets and better customer results, and improved capital efficiency.
  • US T&D, Generation & Supply Chain – Lead Partner responsible for a large 4-year Operations Transformation Program which included replacement of legacy systems with SAP EAM, enterprise-wide mobile and scheduling systems, major organization change, process design and significant change management efforts. The initiative retired multiple applications, impacted approx. 5,000 people and required over 200,000 days of effort. The business achieve a 30% productivity improvement for its field workers.
  • Canadian T&D Grid Operations - Leading the development of a Grid Operations strategy including preparing for customer uptake of distributed energy resources (solar, electric vehicles, storage and demand response). In addition, determining what Grid Operations capabilities and initiatives will be required to support increased customer adoption.
  • US Utility Scale Solar Strategy – Led the economic benefit analysis, recovery and deployment strategy effort for 1GW to 4GW of solar installation for a top quartile North American electric utility, including revenue requirements and rate mitigation strategies.
  • Canadian Gas Distribution - Led comprehensive benchmarking analysis and capability assessment working closely with the executive leadership team. Developed future operating vision; redesigned operating model; defined series of strategic improvement opportunities and identified both inorganic and organic revenue growth opportunities. Achieved maximum client satisfaction score across executive team.
