KPMG in the U.S.

Mike is an Audit partner in KPMG’s Pittsburgh office. He began his career in KPMG’s New Jersey office in 1993 and transferred to Upstate New York in 2000 and Pittsburgh in 2012. Mike was admitted to the partnership in 2003 and has over 20 years of experience in the financial services industry. Mike has been designated a Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) reviewing partner.

He currently serves clients from Ohio to Boston in support of the Northeast Financial Services practice. Mike also serves as the regional and community bank lead – New England, Upstate New York, Ohio, and Pittsburgh, concentrated on ensuring our teams have the right local experienced banking professionals, gathering and disseminating information related to regional and community banking for this market segment, and ensuring KPMG is committed to providing quality client service to financial institutions within the Northeast.

Professional and industry experience

As an Audit partner, Mike has overall responsibility for audit services rendered to clients. His responsibilities include the following:

  • Planning audits, resolving accounting and auditing questions, reviewing audit work performed and conclusions reached, communicating with senior management and audit committees, and issuing reports.
  • Mike has served over 35 SEC registrants in his career, including large multinational and regional financial services companies.
  • He has advised his clients in the areas of auditing and accounting, compliance with SOX 404, audit committee best practices, mergers and acquisitions, public stock and debt offerings, and SEC reporting.
  • Mike is a regional and national instructor at KPMG’s firmwide trainings and provides technical guidance on emerging auditing and accounting topics.
  • He is also a performance management leader and national quality performance review partner, participating in annual audit quality reviews within the firm.

Experiences related to reserve banks

  • Performing audits in accordance with Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) and generally accepted auditing standards
  • Auditing variable interest entities
  • Auditing financial instruments (including treasuries, derivatives (swaps), mortgage backed securities, foreign investments, and repurchase agreements)
  • Regularly attends numerous KPMG general and industry specific training with relevance to PCAOB, ethics, and technology matters
