Greg Engel is Vice Chair – Tax at KPMG LLP where he oversees a team of more than 8,000 partners and professionals across all tax disciplines – federal, international, state and local, as well as specialty practices such as mergers and acquisitions, economic and valuation services, and international executive services.

As a member of the Houston office since 1985, he has served in numerous leadership roles within the Tax function, including as the West Regional Managing Partner for Tax Services, National Service Line Leader for Business Tax Services, partner-in-charge of Tax Services for the Houston Business Unit, and Tax Sector Leader for KPMG’s Insurance Tax practice.

During his time as the National Service Line Leader for Business Tax Services, he developed two very successful programs – the Senior Lead Tax Partner Program and the Lead Tax Partner Academy. And, in 2010, he was proud to be elected to serve a five-year term on KPMG’s U.S. Board of Directors and to serve as Lead Director from 2014-2015. Greg was also a participant in the KPMG Chairman’s 25 Leadership program, and is currently the co-Dean of the program.

Greg has more than 35 years of experience advising companies of all sizes in all areas of taxation, including compliance, financial reporting, planning, mergers and acquisitions, insurance structures and products, and tax controversy.

Moreover, he was a contributing author for The Federal Taxation of Insurance Companies and The Captive Insurance Update and has been a speaker and instructor for firm-sponsored seminars and training courses. He also serves as Treasurer and Board Member for Junior Achievement of Southeast Texas.

Greg holds a B.A. in accounting from the University of Northern Iowa; is a licensed CPA in Texas; and is a member of both the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants.
