Acting Senior Partner for KPMG UK, Mary O'Connor comments on today’s Budget

Commenting on today’s Budget, Mary O'Connor, Acting Senior Partner for KPMG UK, said:

"Against the backdrop of an economy ravaged by the COVID-19 pandemic, today the Government took steps to reassure UK businesses as they build towards recovery. While the UK economy is expected to bounce back strongly, the level of public borrowing remains extremely high and businesses still need ongoing financial support in the immediate term. The Chancellor therefore trod a fine line between facing into the state of the public purse while promising immediate fiscal fixes.

“Today’s Budget was all about economic measures for the current crisis, but it lacked a long-term plan to drive the UK’s future productivity through investment in technology and skills.”
