“June’s Construction PMI reading certainly makes for welcome news, with the fastest rise in activity in nearly two years hammering home the message that the sector’s focus is well and truly on recovery.

“The industry will certainly be keen to meet pent up demand as social distancing restrictions continue to ease, so it’s therefore unsurprising to see that residential builds are the main driver of growth currently. After all, the UK continues to be in sore need of more housing.

“While commercial work and civil engineering activity grew by a lesser degree, we must remember that such construction was less severely hit by the pandemic. Having said that, the government’s made it clear that it sees such activity as a means to help the nation recover economically, so we’ll likely see more movement on that in the comings months in light of that commitment.”
