Chris Hearld, KPMG’s Head of Regions, welcomes announcements by the Chancellor that support boosting productivity in the regions of the country:

“We got a Red Box for the regions."

“From the hotly anticipated devolution deal for West Yorkshire, to the reaffirmation of commitment to Northern Powerhouse Rail; from funding for flood defence and repairs, to an outwards migration of civil servants from the capital, the Budget appears to represent a government mindset which recognises that for the UK economy to thrive its regions must prosper. "

“It was a Budget of two halves, with a good deal of focus on short term, effectively emergency measures. It’s so important that the equally imperative long term vision to support opportunity and productivity was not lost.”
