James Stewart, Vice-Chair for KPMG in the UK and Buthainah Albaity, Associate Director at KPMG Saudi Arabia comment on the fundraising.
45 KPMG employees from across the UK and beyond will be taking part in the Virgin Money London Marathon this weekend, to raise funds for staff charity NSPCC. KPMG joined forces with the charity in April 2018 in an effort to raise over £1.5m to provide hundreds of thousands of children with vital information that will help them have happier and safer childhoods.
KPMG has the largest team running for the NSPCC, with some members coming from as far away as Saudi Arabia to take part. In addition, another 50+ KPMG employees will be trekking the Great Wall of China in May and graduate trainee, Jack Lancefield, will also be running from John O’Groats to Lands End for the charity. The combined fundraising target for all three activities is in excess of £270,000.
Commenting on the fundraising, James Stewart, Vice-Chair for KPMG in the UK said:
“I have been overwhelmed by the way our staff have got behind fundraising efforts for the NSPCC as we work towards our £1.5 million fundraising target. As a large employer, it is important that we play an active role in making a difference to the societies we operate in across the UK. We are delighted to be supporting the NSPCC and the vital work it does.”
Discussing running the marathon, Buthainah Albaity, Associate Director at KPMG Saudi Arabia, said:
“I am based in Saudi Arabia and work for KPMG here in the UAE, however I was seconded to the UK for a year in 2015/16 and worked with the transaction services and valuations team where I got to know the UK firm and learn more about their beliefs and values.
“I grew up in a very conservative society where it's often a taboo to speak up about abuse especially with regards to children who may not be able to find the right protection and, unfortunately, too many children go unnoticed and fall through the cracks. So here I am at my first ever marathon and have decided to dedicate this to a cause that can create an environment that I never had in the neighbourhood where I grew up. I’m very proud to be running for the NSPCC, an organisation that protects children from abuse and harm they shouldn’t need to suffer from. So far I have personally raised over £3,300 and I’m both exited and a bit nervous to see how far I can push myself.”
